Brava: Residents of Furna ask for placement of a nurse at the local Health Post

Residents of the Furna community asked today for the nomination of a new nurse for the local Health Post, to replace the one who is on vacation and whose absence left the community unattended.

Speaking to the press, Reinaldo Martins, a resident of Furna and representing the residents, said that the nurse who normally works in this community is on vacation and the locality was left without a health technician to, at least, attend to the cases " simple".

“It is a place with several elderly people, hypertensive patients, patients with needs for glycemic control, dressings, and often the possibilities are limited to pay for a car to travel to the Health Department in the city of Nova Sintra”, he said.

According to the same source, the absence of the health professional in the locality is causing many constraints, because, at the moment, not even the door of the Health Post is being opened to provide some clarification or at least to measure blood glucose or blood pressure.

Equally, Hélder da Cruz reinforced this claim, stressing that with the Health Post closed, the constraints are several, listing that just for a patient to travel to Nova Sintra, he pays 1,500 transport escudos, often just to control blood glucose, control blood pressure or dressings.

These are aspects that, as he highlighted, would be resolved with the operation of the Health Post.

Faced with this situation, Inforpress contacted the Health delegate, Hélder Pires, who explained the situation, justifying that the island currently lacks human resources in terms of nurses, explaining that the nurse who works in this location has gone on vacation that it is a right that he has and that he already had accumulated vacations.

At the moment, he said that two nurses are on unpaid leave for a year and are already absent from the service, there is another nurse who is accompanying the mother who is in intensive care at the Agostinho Neto University Hospital, in the city of Praia, and another who had to be absent to transfer patients to the island of Fogo.

However, to try to reverse the situation and minimize the constraints, he announced that the police station will place a nurse to work at that Health Post on Tuesdays and Fridays.

On Tuesday, he explained, he will be accompanied by a doctor and on Friday he will only be the nurse for dressings and necessary care.
