Some local residents contacted Inforpress to complain about this situation and Henrique Vieira, spokesperson for the group, said that in the past there was even a reseller in the area but it later ceased to exist.

“When we order five liters of gasoline, we have to pay 100 escudos and if it is 10 liters we pay 200 escudos, that is, for every five liters of gasoline we are obliged to pay 100 escudos for car shipping”, he explained.

According to the same source, fishermen have to buy fuel in advance, otherwise they will run out of gas and consequently be unable to go to sea to fish.

However, the same source also highlighted that to purchase gas, they have to charter a car and pay 100 escudos just to exchange an empty container for a full one.

“Gas or fuel sometimes drops in price, but for us, the residents of Furna, everything stays the same, since we always have to rent a car to pick up these products”, he highlighted.

Henrique Vieira highlighted that in the town of Furna there are around fifty or so boats, which would justify the creation of a fueling station in the area.

“We live from fishing, and gasoline is our precious commodity, Furna is one of the localities in Brava that consumes the most this product, which is why we are calling for the creation of a sales station”, he appealed.

Furthermore, he also complains about the way gas and gasoline are transported, which is normally transported together with several passengers.

“These products are transported in large quantities and most of the time with children and adults on board, which puts people's safety at risk, taking into account that the smell is also strong and the unexpected can happen”, he concluded.
