The head of the Laboratory and Blood Bank of Hospital São Francisco de Assis today called for a massive participation of the population of Brave in the blood donation campaign that is taking place on the island.
Speaking to the press, Carla Araújo explained that this blood donation campaign, which takes place in Brava, is part of the activities related to the celebration of World Blood Donor Day, celebrated on 14 June.
From there, he explained that as Brava is part of the sanitary region, for two days they will be on the island to collect the blood, but also to work on raising awareness in the Brava community about the importance of blood donation.
Asked about the adhesion of the Brave public on this first day, she advanced that, as there are institutions and partner entities active on the island and that have regular donors, namely, Red Cross, Adventist church, National Police, among others, until then the participation is being reasonable.
Likewise, he continued to ask for greater public support, remembering that this action saves lives and is only possible if there are donors.
As for the stock in the Blood Bank, he informed that it has a “reasonable” amount thanks to regular donors and entities that always collaborate, reinforcing that the more donors the better the bank is in terms of supply.
In turn, Rafael Fernandes, pastor of the Adventist church in Nossa Senhora do Monte, informed that only today he brought a group of 27 people to participate in this campaign.
As he highlighted, the Adventist church has always taken the initiative to expand awareness and encourage members to donate blood worldwide, in order to contribute to saving others.
The Adventist pastor underlined that, in Brava, he made a massive announcement among the members that, in addition to the group that donated today, there is still another that will donate this Saturday, 10.
“To donate blood is to be a hero for other people and it is worth remembering that a blood bag can save four lives”, he concluded, thus demonstrating the importance of this action.
The island's health delegate, Hélder Pires, in statements to Inforpress, when announcing the realization of this campaign, recalled that whenever Brava patients who need blood go, they are attended to and helped, thus demonstrating that it is necessary that the island also collaborate in maintaining the blood stock in the laboratory.
As they were not able to carry out this collection and storage on Brava, the Blood Bank professionals brought equipment to work on the process during the day of Friday, 9th, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm and on Saturday, 10th, from 8:00 am to 11:30 am.
The doctor took the opportunity to ask all Brave residents to meet the necessary requirements to be donors and to participate in this campaign, as “it is necessary to support the issue of health, especially when it comes to an action to save lives”.
