The executive director of the Health CV project, Ernestina Moreira, said today that she will leave the island "sensitized" to the needs she has encountered, both in terms of lack of specialists and materials.
This official made these statements to Inforpress, in order to assess the mission that the group carried out to Ilha Brava from 13 to 15 November, with a delegation of 19 health technicians, including doctors, nurses and interpreters.
According to the same source, they treated about 200 patients, stressing that their biggest concerns are in terms of analysis and exams.
"We made diagnoses only with clinical history, because we did not have the minimum conditions to carry out tests", said the person in charge, guaranteeing that they will create the "minimum conditions" so that in the next round they can have other diagnostic conditions.
Ernestina Moreira also added that the island lacks, in addition to materials, professionals of all specialties, from a general practitioner, cardiology, to a physiotherapist, stomatologist, pediatrician, orthopedist, among others.
The official lamented the lack of equipment, which made it difficult for the team to move forward and analyze, as she said, in more depth, the various situations encountered.
He added, however, that they are going with a notion of what is needed, and on the next lap they will bring the minimum necessary equipment.
However, he added that there is a container to arrive on the island, with various hospital supplies, which were not possible to arrive before the medical team.
According to her, when they were on the island last year, they saw so many needs that they could not go to the United States of America, ignoring this fact and not returning.
Already aware of the situation, normally they visit once a year, but he stressed that, at the suggestion of some clinicians who came on this mission, next May, the date he plans to visit the island of Santiago, the organization will send a group to island Brava.
The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) “Project Health for Cape Verde” was on Brava Island at the end of November 2018, to find out about the reality of the island and establish contacts related to the health area, at the invitation of the José Andrade Foundation and some descendants of the island, for this year's consultations.
The group included urologists, general practitioners, surgeons and other specialists in contagious diseases, gynecologists, physiotherapists, among others.
