Speaking to Inforpress, Geremias Cabral highlighted that the purpose of the trip is to carry out an on-the-ground assessment of the damage caused by the earthquake and also to recommend to the population the procedures they should take in each specific case.

“We will clarify the population and also show that we are following the event and if we have any information we will transmit recommendations at all times”, he informed.

According to the director, the team, made up of agents from the Civil Protection of Santiago and Fogo, has already started visiting the land to survey the damage caused by the earthquake, and also in direct contact with the population.

“Yesterday [Wednesday, 01] we visited some locations, namely Cova Rodela, Cova de Joana, Paul, Garça and Baleia, however, today we will continue in other areas that we have not yet been able to visit”, highlighted the same source.

As he explained, the team carries out technical analysis at the level of civil protection, which is a method of knowing what the population should do at each moment, as, he stressed, magnitude is the work of the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INMG), which carries out the analysis and calculates the epicenter and only then passes the information to Civil Protection, which, in turn, issues the alert.

Geremias Cabral also said that at the end of each day a coordination meeting is held to prepare a report, which is sent to the “competent entities”, with the aim of reporting what was done during the day and presenting a plan for the day. Following.
