Work on the road connecting Vila de Nova Sintra to Nossa Senhora do Monte will start later this month, to the encouragement of residents and 'hiaces' drivers who have been complaining about this situation.
In a conversation with Inforpress, the mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, informed that the work has already been assigned, budgeted at around 240 million escudos, financed by the World Bank, which, in addition to the removal and replacement of this road, includes also interventions on the road connecting Figueira Grande to Fajã d´Água.
In the latter, interventions will be carried out to widen the roads, containment walls and improve some parts of the rocks.
According to the mayor, the engineer of the company responsible for the work is already on the island, and according to the information given to him, they are waiting for a ship capable of bringing machinery.
As for the discussion on asphalt or paving, the Government opted for paving, a work that will employ several families from Brave, and given the bad agricultural year, at least several families will have already secured a job.
In addition, costs for asphalting are much higher and maintenance also requires costs.
Drivers have been looking for Inforpress for a long time to claim better conditions on this five kilometer stretch of road, where the paving has shown many holes, although the city council always made some interventions to overcome these difficulties.
There was a time when some drivers, in statements to Inforpress, threatened to “strike, not pay taxes, not fill cars with fuel and leave passengers without means of transport for this route for a few days” as a way of “putting pressure” on the Government to take initiative to build the road.
Still in the field of infrastructures and roads, Francisco Tavares announced that in December, the consignment will be made of the renovation work on the sidewalks of the Historic Center of Nova Sintra, whose tender has already been held and the company that will be responsible for the constructions.
