Brava: Tent owners convinced that movement will improve in the coming days

The owners of the traditional stalls of São João, installed in Nova Sintra, say they are convinced that the movement will improve in the coming days although, from the opening day, June 3rd, until today there is no reason to complain.

Speaking to Inforpress, Dulceneia Rodrigues, from the town of Furna, said that for more than 20 years, in June, she spends a month in the tent where she sells, cooks dishes and there is also space to rest.

According to the same source, at this time it is possible to make a better sale, so he always goes to Nova Sintra to settle in and this year, since the official opening that took place on the 3rd of June, there is no reason to complain and expectations are high. the best, believing that as the feast days of the patron saint and the Day of the Municipality, celebrated on the 24th of June, get closer, movement will be “even better”.

Asked about what it has to offer customers, she said it has a bit of everything, from “earth, earth” coffee with cachupa and other condiments, lunch, dinner, but also drinks, snacks and special dishes, such as seafood, among others. .

Right next door, as the stalls are glued to each other, we find Samira Pereira, who is participating for the fifth year, and is driven by “running after bread and a better income”, reinforcing that work on the island is scarce, hence it is necessary to always look for ways to guarantee sustenance.

In addition, he highlighted that it is a place where people live together, have fun and get out of their routine, confident that from the 18th, with the visit of emigrants and people from other islands, the movement should get stronger.

Manuel Lobo is an owner who came from the island of Fogo for the first time to participate in these activities in São João and also open a stall, out of curiosity and as a way to present a diversified and balanced cuisine.

Because, as I said, in addition to drinks, wines from Fogo, there are also typical dishes from Fogo, Brava and other special dishes.

In their tent there are two groups working, one replacing the other, thus not having the need to close, as while one group rests in the room of the tent itself, the other “holds the ends”.

Until then, he says he has not had to complain about the movement, but he is convinced that things will get even better with the arrival of emigrants and visitors in the next few days.

The tents are made with frames of sisal sticks, covered with canvas, under the responsibility of each of the owners and they are also responsible for making the divisions and decorating their tent as they wish.

In each tent there is a space right at the entrance like a normal bar, there are reserved spaces, a kitchen and a place to rest, where some choose to put beds or mattresses to spend this season in the place.

However, the stalls are not just for the owners and entrepreneurs to earn some income, they are also a meeting place and a way to get out of the daily routine on the island, which, as João Monteiro said, go there to hang out with friends and clear your head having considering that the options on the island are few.

For this year, the mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, announced that 12 tents were opened, although the requests went beyond this number, but that the place does not have space to open more than this number.

In the space, as listed by Francisco Tavares, there are public bathrooms and a team that will work on the issue of sanitation, but even so, he asks society to engage in keeping the space organized and clean, as there will be containers available on site.

Regarding the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages, the mayor made it clear that he will continue with the rules established by law and put into practice every year, prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors under 18 years of age, as well as in glass bottles on the sports grounds during the festivities.
