Speaking to Inforpress, user Genia Santos highlighted that the Health Department currently has only one doctor who, given the population size, is unable to meet demand, taking into account the high demand for health services.
“A single doctor will not be able to meet the demands of healthcare on our island of Brava, because if there are two emergencies, the doctor will have difficulty caring for the patients. However, every day dozens, or perhaps hundreds of people, seek out the health center for treatment, and with only one doctor the situation becomes difficult,” he said.
According to the same source, there are cases of patients whose consultations are transferred to be carried out on the island of Fogo, however, it was considered that if the island had more specialists it would not be necessary to travel to the neighboring island.
Anilton Andrade, who also shares the same idea, considered that health is a priority and comes first, stressing that Brava deserves more than a doctor and the population has the right to quality health care.
“Health is practically the Achilles heel in our Brava, so knowing that there is this serious constraint, since our Health Center is not capable of treating certain types of illnesses, with a shortage of doctors, the situation becomes even more regrettable”, he stressed.
In this sense, Andrade appealed to the Health delegate and anyone else in charge to intervene on behalf of the Bravense population who need better quality healthcare.
In response to this situation, the Health Delegate of Brava, Júlio Barros, confirmed that since December 26th of last year, the structure has had only one doctor, however he stressed that he is hopeful that the ministry will act as soon as possible to restore normality for the good of public care.
Furthermore, this person in charge also informed that the institution also needs an administrator, to also carry out his functions and contribute to solving the problems in the health structure of this island of Brava.
