The mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, announced today that the works to complete the entire renovation of the historic center of Nova Sintra are budgeted at around 20 million escudos.
Francisco Tavares spoke specifically about the need for paving Rua Direita, two small crossings that connect Rua Almirante Reis to Avenida Amílcar Cabral, the access branch that connects Avenida Amílcar Cabral to the Casa Museu Eugénio Tavares and a part in the square of the church of São João Baptista, in order to conclude the total requalification of the historic center of Nova Sintra.
According to the mayor, the Minister of Infrastructure undertook, during her visit to Brava Island, at the beginning of last May, to finance these works, stressing that program contracts will be signed, even if in stages, but which will be funded during this mandate.
Francisco Tavares expressed his desire to obtain funding to start, later this year, the paving works on Rua Direita, acknowledging that the situation of this street is “a bit ridiculous” and that it is a very busy street.
The requalification works of the historic center of Nova Sintra, which started at the end of September 2020, initially budgeted at more than 27 million escudos and financed under the Rehabilitation, Requalification and Accessibility Program (PRRA), were inaugurated in September 2022 and aimed to reclassify the streets of the city of Nova Sintra.
