Brava: Works to implement the desalination plant are already visible

The works for the implementation of the desalination station in the town of Furna are already visible with the construction of the shipyard, announced today the mayor of Brava.

Speaking to Inforpress, Francisco Tavares explained that work has already begun for the building in the Forte area where the station will be installed and the next step will be the start of works on the desalination plant itself.

According to the same source, the execution period is 14 months, believing that in June 2024 the island will already have desalinated water and thus seeing one of its structural problems resolved, although, he warned that there may be some delays, taking into account the various mishaps that the island faces to make things happen.

As the mayor explained, this work will take all this time because it has several components, among them the need to drill holes, prepare the land for two stations with solar panels, one at Fort Furna and another in Santa Bárbara, the construction of three reservoirs, 1 of 500 cubic meters (m3) and 2 of 100 m3 each.

In addition, he said that it is necessary to assemble the desalination plant itself and also the entire pumping and water supply system from Forte to the Avenida head reservoir in Nova Sintra.

Francisco Tavares recalled that this is a “structural and large” work, including a photovoltaic park to minimize energy costs and guarantee the production of water to supply the island.

This project is financed by the Luxembourg Cooperation in the amount of 3.5 million euros (approximately PTE 385 million).
