In a statement, Estradas de Cabo Verde (ECV) informs that as of Tuesday, the 11th, there will be a temporary interdiction, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, to restore the safety conditions of the slope and reconstruction work on the wall and sidewalk on the National Road leading to Fajã de Água.

“Considering that sectors of the rocky slope represent some instability, Estradas de Cabo Verde mobilized a team of rock workers to cause the controlled fall of these rocks, cleaning the slope and reducing the associated risks”, reads the same statement, which indicates that the Prohibition of movement of people and vehicles on site occurs to maintain safety.

Speaking to Inforpress, the mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, said that to start these works, which he acknowledged had been “a little late”, it was necessary to mobilize rock workers from Santo Antão, reinforcing that this type of work requires knowledge, as it is “too dangerous”.

About the works to be carried out at this stage, he explained that these rockmen, with some small machines and manually, will climb on top of the rock that fell to make controlled landslides of the stones that present the most danger, or of some rocks that show a sign of some fragility and of a future fall.

With that, he underlined, the road must be closed, justifying that the rubble and pieces of rock will fall on the road, but that at the end of each working day the road will be cleaned so that the area does not remain 24 hours without access. .

The mayor expressed his satisfaction at the announcement of the start of the works, as, according to him, the rainy season is approaching, which could bring more risks to the work to be carried out.

After the work on the slopes, he stressed that the expectation is to see an effective company, with heavy machinery, many workers and willpower to carry out the work of rebuilding the wall and the road itself in the 60 meters that has the provisional passage at that moment and return to a “relative normality” in the access to and from Fajã d´Água.
