The mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, announced today that the reconstruction works on the wall and the floor of the road section in Fajã d'Água have already started, but there is still no end date.

The information was advanced in statements to Inforpress by the mayor, when asked what the state of the road is, since on the 21st of January there was a landslide that took part of it.

The locality was without car circulation for two months, which was replaced after some interventions in the place, but that residents and drivers sought the press to alert the competent authorities of the danger that this section presented.

According to Francisco Tavares, during the visit of the Minister of Infrastructure to the island of Brava at the beginning of last May, it was decided to start the works to restore the normality of connections to the locality and in safety, but also the commitment to carry out the construction from an alternative road, Fajã d´Água -Espadinha – Portete – Palhal.

As for the works, the mayor announced that they have already started with a local company on a subcontract basis, where the reconstruction of the wall will be carried out, the safety work on the water passage that was compromised and then the replacement of the floor.

According to the mayor, he still does not have knowledge of the budget, but he has the notion that it is a work that will be around 14 to 20 thousand escudos, and that it will not be easy to do.

He indicated that it is an extension of about 65 meters, but requires heavy machinery and the construction of walls that, at certain points, exceed 10 meters in height, requiring that the base itself start with at least three meters in width.

As for the alternative road, it showed that this route was chosen among five scenarios presented and this appeared to be the best option, having organized an event at municipal level with the participation of civil society to also leave their opinion.

Francisco Tavares said that the commitment remains that the Government will, still within this mandate, give signals for carrying out the work on the alternative road.
