Society in Brave sees more day-to-day complications with the rise in the price of flour, which in turn will lead to an increase in derivatives, putting the work of many at risk if no customers are forthcoming.

Speaking to the press, Emanuel Rodrigues, owner of a bakery in the town of Furna, considered that the situation is getting from “bad to worse”.

Because, as he pointed out, with the increase in the price of flour at a national level, in Brava the price is always higher and in the case of the bakery, it is not only flour that is worked with, reinforcing that other ingredients such as sugar, butter, the oil, which are essential in this area have already seen increases as well.

“How are we going to manage to pay the taxes we have, especially with Finance?”, questioned Emanuel Rodrigues, stressing that now they are practically working for the State, because they are not getting anything in terms of revenue.

In this sense, he stressed that if the Government does not intervene, small entrepreneurs in the bakery business, taking into account that in Brava there is no large bakery company, will have to close their doors, because they will not be able to remain in the market.

“In the last increase in flour, we raised the bread to 15 escudos, now we will have to raise it to 20 escudos and if it is not accepted there is no other solution but to close the doors”, he announced, lamenting the situation that will put several people on the island out of work .

At the moment, Emanuel Rodrigues informed that he produces around 1000 loaves of bread daily, to supply the locality of Furna and the city of Nova Sintra, an amount that he considers too little to cover so many expenses.

This situation will not only affect entrepreneurs in the bakery sector, but also housewives and people who make their day-to-day with the confectionery.

In this regard, Rita Fontes stressed that this situation is "very complicated" and will mainly affect large families, but also those with less conditions who prefer to make their bread at home to reduce costs.

Also, Helena Vieira, a housewife, lamented this situation that will cause “several problems” within families, and for families that depend on the confectionery, the situation will be even more complicated, because with the price of flour, they are forced to increase the price of their products and, consequently, there will be a decrease in customers and income is decreasing, thus increasing the difficulties within the family.
