British Tourists Warned About Maritime Dangers in Cape Verde
British tourists are advised to take care when swimming in Cape Verde due to dangerous sea conditions.
The UK Foreign Office has issued a warning to British citizens planning to visit Cape Verde. The warning highlights the risks associated with marine conditions around the islands, including strong currents and unpredictable waves.
To ensure the safety of tourists, the FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) strongly recommends that swimmers only use beaches with lifeguards present. Additionally, it is essential to take precautions when walking near water, especially in unsupervised areas.
British authorities emphasize the importance of respecting the warning flags displayed on beaches. The red flag indicates high-risk conditions, prohibiting bathing; yellow signals caution and only allows walking in the water; while green indicates safe swimming.
The alert was published on 30 July and is accompanied by recommendations to seek additional information on water safety from the Royal Life Saving Society.
