A report that attempted to understand the economic, social and cultural needs of the island of Brava, considered improvements, such as access to the electricity grid, to the water grid, with percentages exceeding 98% and which provide a certain quality of life to the population.

However, the social diagnosis of Brava Island draws attention to the school dropout which is 30% in the academic year that ended last July and the disapproval which reaches 32%. The study was carried out in partnership between the councils of Oeiras, in Portugal, and Brava. After publishing the Social Diagnosis of the island of Brava, the president of the local council, Francisco Tavares, came to say that the local authority will work with all institutions and organizations to understand the reasons for school failures and dropouts and act to prevent them.

The study almost tells us that these failures and dropouts have to do with some social problem or family dysfunction that makes these children bring problems from home to school that remain repressed and then prevent them from having academic success,” said the president of the Brava City Council, Francisco Tavares, who also stated that the “Brava City Council should use the study as a guide in its future actions aimed at resolving the challenges that the document presents .”

The study on the social diagnosis of Brava shows that the island has lost more than 50% of its population since the country's independence in 1975. More than 60% of residents are on the list of the most vulnerable, with 60% of families on Brava being single-parent and dependent on remittances from immigrants.
