Cape Verde and South Korea signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) last Sunday with the aim of deepening bilateral cooperation in several areas, including economy, trade, culture, science and education. The agreement was signed by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, Cho Tae-yul of South Korea and Rui Figueiredo Soares of Cape Verde.

The MoU represents an important milestone in relations between the two countries, marking a "turning point", according to the Cape Verde Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Minister Rui Figueiredo Soares expressed his hope that the agreement "will translate this noble vision into reality and build a lasting legacy for future generations".

The signing of the MoU took place before Cape Verde's participation in the Korea/Africa Summit, which takes place from 3 to 4 June in Seoul. The Cape Verdean President, José Maria Neves, is among the African heads of state present at the summit, which has as its central theme "The Future We Built: Shared Growth, Sustainability and Solidarity".

In the opening session of the summit, President Neves will speak on "Cooperation for Development and Inclusive Growth". The summit is expected to generate discussions on collaborative solutions and solidarity measures for sustainable development, focusing on global challenges such as climate change, food security, supply chains and health security.

The MoU and participation in the Korea/Africa Summit demonstrate Cape Verde's commitment to strengthening its ties with South Korea and promoting cooperation in areas of mutual interest. It is believed that these agreements will bring significant benefits to both countries, boosting socioeconomic development and promoting cultural and scientific exchange.
