Cape Verde: The country's largest photovoltaic solar plant inaugurated
The company Aguas de Ponta Preta has inaugurated the largest solar photovoltaic plant in Cape Verde, with a capacity of 6 MWp, on the island of Sal. The project will increase the penetration of renewable energy and produce energy at a competitive price.
The company Aguas de Ponta Preta, operated by the Spanish company Impulso Energía, inaugurated this Tuesday the largest photovoltaic solar plant in the country, with a capacity of 6 MWp, located on the island of Sal.
The project, which occupies an area of 8 hectares in the region of Fátima and Santa Maria, will increase the penetration rate of renewable energy in Cape Verde by around 40%. It is estimated that the plant will produce 10.5 GWh/year.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aguas de Ponta Preta, Norberto Lariba, announced that the price of energy produced by the plant will be less than 5 Cape Verdean escudos (0.045 euros) per kilowatt-hour for the first 15 years.
The project involves a power purchase agreement (PPA) between DNICE (Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Energy) and Aguas de Ponta Preta, part of the Impulso holding company, with 25 years of experience in several islands of Cape Verde and headquarters on the island of Sal.
