A man with outstanding arrest warrants for international drug trafficking and with alleged links to illicit activities in Cape Verde was arrested on Friday (26) in Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The arrest, the result of a joint operation between the security forces of Minas Gerais and Ceará, draws attention to the presence of international criminal networks with branches in different parts of the world, including the Cape Verdean archipelago.

Investigations indicate that the arrested individual was a fugitive from justice and had arrest warrants issued by the 11th Federal Court of Fortaleza. In addition to Cape Verde, he has links to criminal activities in China, France and Bolivia, which highlights the complexity of drug trafficking networks that operate on a global scale.

The arrest of this individual in Brazilian territory reinforces the need to intensify international cooperation in the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking. Brazilian and Cape Verdean authorities must work together to dismantle these criminal networks and prevent drug trafficking from continuing to ravage communities and undermine institutions.
