Chelsea have announced the signing of Basel's versatile player Renato Veiga on a seven-year contract, with the possibility of extension for a further 12 months, for a reported sum of 15 million Euros (EUR). At 20 years of age and a Portugal youth cap, Veiga, who can play in both defense and midfield, spoke enthusiastically about his move to one of England's biggest clubs.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be here. This is one of the biggest clubs in England - the biggest for me - and I'm really excited to get started," Veiga told the club's official website.

Renato Veiga is a product of Sporting's academy in Lisbon and the son of former Cape Verde international Nelson Veiga. Prior to his move to Basel, where he has made 26 appearances since last summer, Veiga had a loan spell at Augsburg in the Bundesliga in January 2023.

Veiga's signing represents a strategic move for Chelsea, which seeks to reinforce its squad with promising young talents. His ability to play in multiple positions on the field adds flexibility to the team under coach Thomas Tuchel, who saw potential in the player to strengthen the defense and contribute in midfield.

With this move, Renato Veiga joins a list of young, talented players who are shaping Chelsea's future as the club prepares for challenges in both the Premier League and European competitions next season.
