The atmosphere at the Riviera Inn was one of celebration and togetherness, with people sharing memories and expressing the importance of Valdir Alves' work. "Cabo Video" has played a crucial role in preserving Cape Verdean cultural identity in the diaspora, recording events, interviews and significant moments over the years.

The initiative to digitize these tapes aims to ensure that this rich historical material is not lost over time and can be accessed by future generations. Fundraising will allow this collection to be preserved in digital format, making it easier to view, share and study.

The event was marked by emotional speeches about Valdir Alves' contribution and the importance of preserving the community's history. There were also cultural performances and moments of fraternization, demonstrating the strength and unity of the Cape Verdean community in Rhode Island.

The response to the event was positive, with many expressing their support for the initiative and contributing to the cause. The hope is that the funds raised will enable the digitization of the "Cabo Video" collection to be successfully carried out, ensuring that the history and culture of the Cape Verdean community will live on for many years to come.
