Concerns about maritime safety: The case of the "Chiquinho" barge
Manuel Rosa expresses his growing concern about maritime safety involving the "Chiquinho" barge. Despite the difficulties faced during the crossings of the channel, the use of only one engine has been neglected by the responsible authorities.
Manuel Rosa expressed his concern through a post on his Facebook account. In the post, he expressed his disquiet regarding the "Chiquinho" barge, which has been crossing the channel with only one machine. Manuel reported that he contacted the Maritime Port Institute and ENAPOR, the company responsible for managing the country's ports, in order to deal with this matter, but his requests were ignored.
Manuel points out that, according to his information, the barge "Chiquinho" is sailing without bow propellers, which are essential instruments for docking maneuvers and maneuverability in reduced spaces. In addition, these propellers are critical to keeping vessels in line with the waves when the machines are in trouble. He also emphasizes that all maritime inspectors and professionals in the sector are aware of the importance of this equipment, especially in medium-sized vessels, such as the "Chiquinho" barge.
Faced with this situation, Manuel questions what the maritime authorities are doing about it. He raises the possibility of negligence on the part of these entities and questions whether there are no orders to keep the barge "Chiquinho" stopped in the port. He closes his post by asking: " What are you waiting for??? "
The concerns raised by Manuel Rosa draw attention to the safety of the crossings made by the "Chiquinho" barge and highlight the need for action by the competent maritime authorities to guarantee the safety of passengers and the efficiency of operations.
