Controversy/State of the Nation: Orlando Dias calls for original MpD and State reforms with more health and education

Representative Orlando Dias shook up the MpD bench during this Wednesday's parliamentary debate on the state of the nation by proposing measures for more health and education and less spending on public administration, at the same time as he demanded the return of the original MpD from 1990 with freedom of expression that had Carlos Veiga in leadership and state reforms, with emphasis on the delimitation of the prime minister's mandate. The leader of the fan group, Paulo Veiga, separated himself from Orlando Dias' position and showed solidarity with the government headed by Ulisses Correia e Silva. There were even those who asked for Dias' head, but he challenged that he will continue as a deputy representing the people who elected him, expressing his opinion freely.

Controversy/State of the Nation: Orlando Dias calls for original MpD and State reforms with more health and education

Orlando Dias' intervention shook parliament for a moment during the debate on the state of the nation. Focusing on the health and education sectors, he once again called for a reduction in expenses in the functioning of the State and more salary fairness between the different professional categories – he exemplified the gap that exists between the minimum wage in public administration and the maximum that is attributed to presidents of the Business Administration Council and public institutes. He defended more investments in health, at least 12% of the state budget. He promised, however, as a technician in the area, solidarity and collaboration in whatever is necessary and possible to the current holder of the portfolio, Filomena Gonçalves.

The fan parliamentarian also proposed State reforms, defending the reduction of the Prime Minister's mandate to only consecutive terms (10 years) and the election of members of the Court of Auditors and the Superior Council of the Judiciary of the Public Ministry in the National Assembly. Everything, according to him, with a view to providing more dignity and independence to these central government institutions.

At the party level, he defended, as one of the founders, the return of the original MpD of 1990, which had Carlos Veiga as leader and which allowed freedom of thought and expression to each militant and leader, which, according to him, does not happen with the Current MpD headed by Ulisses Correia e Silva.

These observations by Orlando Dias agitated the fan deputies and government members present in parliament for some time, to the point that the president of the bench Paulo Veiga took the floor to demarcate them and guarantee political support for the government. There were even those who asked for Dias' head.

But he returned to the charge, defying that no one will silence him and make him leave parliament, where he will continue to freely express his opinion in representation of the people who elected him.
