Covid-19/Brava: Bravenses stranded in the city of Praia launch “cry for help”

Passengers from Brave held in Praia for more than four months ask the competent authorities for “help”, declaring that the situation they are experiencing is “complicated, difficult and regrettable”.

According to the group's spokesman, Nelson Gomes, they are in the city of Praia "drifting", without any attention from the responsible entities, adding that "there are people going hungry".

"The situation is quite delicate and critical for some people, because many are going through difficulties", said the spokesman, recalling that it is already "everyone knows" that in Cidade da Praia "to live and survive you need money in the pocket".

According to the same source, the situation they most regret is the fact that the Government does not give them “no attention”.

“We are not against people who came from the United States of America a few days ago and have already traveled to Brava Island, but we are claiming our rights”, he underlined.

He also stressed that the mayor of Brava even supported some “neediest” people with basic food baskets, but there are already people with more than four months on the island, who, in addition to the situation experienced due to the covid-19 pandemic, feel the need to be close to their family members.

Faced with this situation, he stressed that it is not just the economic situation that is weighing on these people, but the psychological part, as they are already “tired of not having any feedback”.

Incidentally, he said it was strange that even “nobody in Cidade da Praia” had contacted them, justifying that any decision that has been taken in relation to this group of people, they learn about it through Brava entities, not directly from government sectors in Praia City.

“I personally went to the Praia Health Police Station, looked for the Civil Protection Services, but without success”, emphasized the source.

Hence, it advanced that they decided to create a group on social networks, in which they included Brava's health delegate and the mayor.

The situation described by many of the elements is "complicated", pointed out the same source, with cases in which "parents do not have money to buy bread for their children".

In addition to all these situations, he added that earlier this week they took the tests, but returned home.

Hence, he questions the probability of not contracting the virus, taking into account the number of cases that has been increasing day after day.

He added that after carrying out the tests, they should be quarantined to ensure that they do not run the risk of bringing the virus to Brava Island.

"We want some attention, we want answers," concluded the spokesperson.

The mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, in an interview with Inforpress, demonstrated his “exhaustion” in the face of this situation, ensuring that on the island all the conditions are already created and various scenarios are set up for the reception of these people.
