The Brava Health Department today applied 55 rapid tests to passengers who came from Fogo Island, as a way to “reduce” the possibility of the new coronavirus entering the island.

This information was provided to Inforpress by the Health delegate, Júlio Barros, who explained that in addition to deciding to apply tests to passengers arriving from Fogo Island, who already have confirmed positive cases of covid-19, they have reinforced the control system at the port of Furna .

According to the same source, they decided to apply the tests because those traveling from the city of Praia carry out tests before the trip, but on the neighboring island of Fogo, even with positive cases, passengers are still traveling without the test requirement.

Therefore, as soon as the ship arrives, he said that passengers start to leave in groups of ten and are sent to carry out hand hygiene, following the distance recommended with signs on the ground, to later have access to a tent where they are subjected to the testing, sorting and screening of passengers.

Of the 55 tests applied today, Júlio Barros advanced that all tested negative and that the idea is to continue with this initiative until they start doing the tests on Fogo Island before the trips.

These steps, as the Health delegate underlined, are intended to prevent upon arrival, and he took the opportunity to appeal to passengers to comply with the measures issued by the Government in relation to social distance, use of masks and the necessary requirements for travel.

In addition, he asked the population of Brave to also do their part so that the island can remain free of the virus.

The country already has 882 active cases, 2,855 recovered, 39 deaths, two patients transferred and a total of 3,778 accumulated positive cases and only the island of Brava remains without positive cases of covid-19.
