The Municipal Health Commission of Brava met this Friday afternoon to draw up some guidelines with the “possible” arrival of Brava residents stranded on the island of Santiago, more specifically in the city of Praia, due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to Inforpress, the Health delegate, Júlio Barros, said that this meeting, which brought together in addition to Health personnel, the person in charge of Civil Protection, the National Police, the mayor of the city, among other living forces, the “greatest concern” was the question of carrying out PCR tests on 92 Braveenses who are stranded in Praia.

According to the same source, this meeting decided on guidelines to be put into practice with the arrival of people from the city of Praia, as well as possible places of isolation, in case cases of covid-19 arise on the island and the situation of the Health Department on the island. who don't have all the necessary equipment to deal with the pandemic.

He announced the carrying out of tests on the various entities that maintain constant contact with various people, pointing out Health staff, National Police, Civil Protection, journalists, bank staff, dockers, among others.

Asked about the measures to be taken, in case the detained Brava residents return to Brava or if a case arises on the island, the delegate informed that in terms of medication and complications, there are national guidelines on antibiotics, vitamin C and anti-allergy.

In relation to the inter-hospital space, he added that he had already contacted the island's school delegation, which was to transfer a school close to the Health Police Station, to start operating the services of the Maternal Child/Family Planning Program –PMI/ PF and the space at the police station where the service operates will be transformed into an isolation space if there are positive cases.

In case of need for more spaces, the same source stressed that the mayor informed him that there is already a pension, a hotel and three more houses available.

However, he explained that in conversation with the National Director of Health, he informed him that if these people return, the quarantine “is not mandatory”.

Although he stressed that people will have to carry out tests upon arrival at the Furna pier, where a space for this purpose has already been identified, and after following up via telephone and in person, after ten days these people repeat the quick test .

Another situation that the delegate showed his concern is the “relaxation” of the population, on the public road, in bars and other establishments.

In this regard, he announced that messages and awareness campaigns about covid-19 will be resumed, to "call people's attention and common sense".

"Our island, our health structure is small, people are not following the guidelines, we run the risk of having positive cases, which will end up bringing several complications", warned the delegate.

Cabo Verde has so far recorded 697 accumulated cases of covid-19 since the disease was reported in the country in March 2020, of which 294 have recovered and six have died.
