The result of the PCR test carried out on the suspect of covid-19 on Brava Island was negative, as well as that of his wife and one daughter, with the result of two more daughters still pending.

This information was advanced to Inforpress by the health delegate of Brava Island, Júlio Barros.

The same source stressed that it is still waiting for the other two results, to eliminate the possibility of suspected cases on the island.

The island of Brava entered the list of islands with suspected cases of covid-19 on the 6th of July, when a quick test was carried out on a patient who had arrived on the island on the 27th of June, coming from the city of Praia with its negative PCR test, but already in the control exam it was positive.

At the time, the health delegate explained that the quick test carried out was positive, which meant that this patient had contact with someone who had the virus, but it did not mean that he was a positive case, which was confirmed with PCR today.

With this result, Júlio Barros once again appeals to the population of Brave to respect the standards and safety measures issued by the Ministry of Health.

The official added that with the new guidelines that have already been issued, other measures will be taken on the island next week, mainly with regard to the operation of bars, social distancing, among others.

Cape Verde currently has 1,553 accumulated positive cases, of which 19 have died, two patients have been transferred to their countries of origin, 730 people have recovered and 802 are active cases.

Cases are distributed across the islands of Santiago with 1,193 accumulated cases (76.8%), Sal 273 (17.5%), Boa Vista 57 (3.6%), São Vicente 12 (0.7%) São Nicolau 11 (0.7%), Santo Antão 4 (0.2%) and Maio 2 (0.1%).

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused almost 551,000 deaths and infected more than 12.12 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a balance sheet made by the France-Presse news agency (AFP).

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
