Covid-19: 31 more infected in Santiago and Sal bring the total in Cape Verde to 1,623 cases

It's official. Cabo Verde registered another 31 infected (21 in Santiago and 10 in Sal) with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the accumulated total to 1,623 cases since March 19, according to data from the health authorities.

It's official. Cabo Verde registered another 31 infected (21 in Santiago and 10 in Sal) with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the accumulated total to 1,623 cases since March 19, according to data from the health authorities.

According to Lusa, which cites the daily update on the www.covid19.cv page, from the National Institute of Public Health and the Ministry of Health, in the early afternoon, the accumulated total of infected with covid-19 in Cabo Verde amounted to 1,623 and the death toll stood at 19.

Of the new cases, 13 are from Praia, four from Santa Cruz and another four from Santa Catarina (municipalities on the island of Santiago) and 10 from the island of Sal.

According to the same source, two more patients were reported as recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the accumulated total to 732, while 870 cases of the disease remain active in the country.

Praia, on the island of Santiago, with an accumulated total of 982 cases (1,248 on the island of Santiago in total), and the island of Sal, with 289 diagnosed cases (all since June 1), are the main outbreaks of the disease in the archipelago.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused more than 560,000 deaths and infected more than 12.52 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China, says Lusa.
