A Cabo Verde Airlines Boeing that was supposed to leave Recife since Thursday only happened this Saturday morning. The company told the newspaper O Globo that a technical malfunction made it impossible for the device to travel to Brazil, but passengers were irritated by the lack of information from the Cape Verdean operator, which was heavily criticized in a TV Globo report .

Passengers on Cabo Verde Airlines who intended to leave Recife to spend the New Year's Eve abroad had their flights cancelled. This Friday, the 20th, customers who bought tickets to destinations in Europe and Africa had to wait for several hours at Guararapes/Gilberto Freyre Airport, in the South Zone of the capital of Pernambuco.

Cabo Verde Airlines said that the problem of flight cancellations started on Thursday, the 19th, because of a breakdown in an aircraft. According to the company, the expectation is that everything will be normalized by the end of this Saturday.

At the airline counter, there was a queue of passengers looking for information. Many carts and luggage were piled up.
One of the injured passengers was Cristiano Ferraz, who left Petrolina, in the Sertão of Pernambuco, to catch a flight in Recife. The destination would be Sal Island.

The passenger, who is an English teacher, reported that the dream of taking the dream trip was frustrated. “They said three flights have been canceled since Wednesday. The company stated that the plane had a radio problem and that it was forced to return to Sal Island, 50 minutes after taking off”, he said.

According to Ferraz, there was no help from the company for some customers. “They didn't offer me a hotel. I arrived here on Thursday and slept here at the airport. I also wasn't put on another flight, as they said could happen," he said.

Lawyer Roseane Freire was also hampered by the cancellation of Cabo Verde Airlines flights. With her children and husband, she left João Pessoa, in Paraíba, to catch a flight in Recife, bound for Paris, France. According to her, children, frustrated, ask all the time when they will arrive in Europe. “It is an uncomfortable and humiliating situation. My daughter got sick”, said the client.

Roseane said that everyone was disappointed with the cancellation and stressed that the authorities must take action. “If it were a serious country, this company would not be operating. It is not the first time. Our dream turned into a nightmare.”

In addition to the injured passengers in Recife, there are around 90 people abroad unable to return to Brazil. This is the case of account manager Priscila Portella, who lives in Ireland. She took a flight from Cape Verde and ended up on Sal Island, from where she would take a plane to the capital of Pernambuco. “We have no information and no forecast to arrive in Recife. There are more people waiting to board,” he said, in a video sent via WhatsApp.

Passengers demanded information at the Cabo Verde Airlines counter, at Recife airport, this Friday, 20.

By telephone, the manager of Cabo Verde Airlines in Brazil, Luiz Ferreira, said that the company's flight schedule was compromised by a breakdown in one of the planes.

As a result, a flight leaving Recife was delayed for at least 24 hours and other operations were affected, he said.
He said that the company has a total of five planes, and he also said that some passengers were put on TAP aircraft, on flights leaving Recife, Salvador and Natal.

The manager estimates that by this Saturday, at the end of the afternoon, everything will be settled, within the normal schedule of flights. "The forecast for the repair of the plane that was in trouble is until the end of the afternoon today (Friday). I believe that tomorrow (Saturday), until the end of the day, all the schedule is on schedule", he said.

Meanwhile, Santiago Magazine is aware that this flight ended up arriving in Recife this morning (4:05 am from Cape Verde) and will now be traveling to the island of Sal.
