In an interview with Inforpress, this candidate argued that “the residents of District 58 need a champion who provides broad representation on issues important to Fairlawn and Woodlawn, and who prioritizes their concerns every day.”

In this district, he made it known that around 40 percent (%) of the residents identify as Cape Verdeans, but that his intention is not to work only for the Cape Verdean community, but for everyone, as he has done on other occasions, although in different situations.

As Elizabeth Moreira explained, since her childhood she has been on the front line in this community, whether in the Catholic Church or in the small daily activities she carried out at the meat market with her uncle, but her motivation to run for office was further enhanced by the invitations she has received, as a result of her interventions in the health and social areas.

She recalled that during the Covid-19 pandemic, she was the city's first director of public health and equity and that she is currently the assistant officer for health equity programs at the Local Initiative Support Corporation Rhode Island, and is also one of the faces of the Health CV project that has brought various support in equipment and doctors to several islands in the country.

Through her work as director of public health and equity for the city, her volunteer efforts to coordinate health care for those most in need and now providing technical assistance to stakeholders and public service agencies, she said she has demonstrated leadership and a capacity to serve.

As guidelines for her campaign, Elizabeth Moreira chose the issue of residence, housing, education, the search for more savings and working in a more inclusive community, as well as better opportunities, as the focal points.

This candidacy has been in the works for over two years, when the candidate says she understood that District 58 needed better leadership, believing that just as she contributed and led during times of pandemic and crisis, it is possible to work together with the population to have an increasingly better District.

“I believe it is possible, I will run a campaign that is worthy of the work that will be carried out and all this strength comes from my supporters who are not only Cape Verdeans, but from all over and who live here”, said Elizabeth Moreira, convinced that on September 12th the results will be satisfactory.

However, he reminded the community that in addition to support, it is first necessary to register, explaining that the process will continue until August 10, and that “the first important mission of the citizen is to vote, which shows their commitment to the community, allowing them to elect their representative to have a voice at the municipal and state level”.

This nominee was named Person of the Year by the Pawtucket Hall of Fame in 2022 and by the Pawtucket Foundation in 2023.

Elizabeth Moreira lives on Lorraine Street in Pawtucket, and says her family has lived in Pawtucket since 1980, when her grandmother emigrated from Cape Verde with her 12 children, believing that leadership is in her blood and in her DNA.

The first-generation American earned her master's degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Services and her bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island.
