Earthquake of intensity 4 to 4.5 on the Ritcher scale recorded on the islands of Fogo and Brava – INMG

On the island of Fogo, the seismic shock was felt intensely in the city of São Filipe and throughout the entire island of Fogo, leaving the population worried.

The most intense earthquake, which was felt by the majority of the population, occurred at 9:00 pm, but according to information from INMG there was an earthquake at 9:22 pm, but of lesser intensity.

“The National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics reports that at 6:00 pm, on October 30th, seismic activities occurred on Brava Island. The epicenters are located between two and three kilometers off the coast of Brava Island, more precisely between Vinagre and Aguada”, says a statement from this institute, highlighting that the magnitude is between 4 and 4.5 on the Richter scale.

The INMG, adds the statement, will continue to monitor the situation, so “there is no reason for alarm”, but the authorities must remain alert.

At the level of São Filipe, the mayor, Nuías Silva, said that he still does not have information regarding possible damages that may have resulted from the earthquake, but that the municipality will carry out an assessment of the situation this morning by the Municipal Protection Service Civil.
