Earthquake/Porto Novo: Local authorities guarantee that the situation is calm despite the panic caused

Local authorities in Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, still have no record of requests for assistance, or damage despite the “situation of panic and fright” caused to the population by the earthquake that occurred at dawn today.

The Porto Novo City Council councilor, Irlando Ramos, who is responsible for the Civil Protection area, told Inforpress that “reports” coming to the municipality say that the earthquake went unnoticed “for many people”, without, however, failing to cause “some fright and panic” in the areas where the quake was felt.

“Reports that we had are that the earthquake went unnoticed by many people, but it did cause some scare and some panic to people”, advanced Irlando Ramos, informing that at this moment “the situation is calm”.

According to this mayor, there is, at this time, “no information on the occurrence of damage, nor requests for assistance”, ensuring that “everything is calm” in the municipality of Porto Novo.

The earthquake was felt at dawn today in several locations in the municipality of Porto Novo, such as Alto Mira, Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, Planalto Norte and Ribeira das Patas, and, in some cases, it was verified “with strong intensity,” , according to the testimonies of some people approached by Inforpress.
