ACLCC delegation received by the Mayor of Brava
Nova Sintra, Aug 1, 2023 (Bravanews) - The Mayor of Brava received last week the President of the Cabo Verdean Association to Fight Cancer (ACLCC) Cornelia Pereira, along with two members of the institution's entourage , respectively, Sidonio Monteiro and Benvindo Lopes. During the meeting, in addition to other matters, opportunities to strengthen and formalize a partnership between the two institutions in favor of the fight against cancer on the island were discussed.
The meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the Brava City Council, had the main objective of finding ways to join efforts to fight cervical, breast and prostate cancer, and improve access to health and prevention services for the population of Brava . During the meeting, some ideas and strategies to establish closer and lasting cooperation were discussed.
The President of ACLCC presented some of the initiatives that the association already carries out in other islands of Cape Verde, highlighting the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and adequate treatment to reduce the incidence and mortality from cancer. She also emphasized the association's commitment to providing psychological and emotional support to patients and their families throughout the treatment process.
In turn, the Mayor of Brava expressed the interest and willingness of the local administration to establish a formal partnership with the ACLCC. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between public authorities and civil society organizations to achieve significant results in the area of health and well-being of the population of Brave.
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that both parties would appoint representatives to initiate negotiations and the elaboration of a cooperation protocol between the Municipality of Brava and the ACLCC. The objective is to formalize the partnership and align strategies for fighting cancer on the island.
The possible formalization of this partnership represents an important milestone for the island of Brava, as it highlights the commitment of local institutions to join forces with civil society organizations to face one of the main public health challenges in Cape Verde.
