August 25, 2023 - The Mayor of Brava received in audience a delegation representing the VITÓ Project and the person responsible for BI-FLORES, two non-governmental organizations (NGOs) renowned for their work dedicated to the Preservation and Environmental Sustainability of Fauna and Flora on the islands of Fogo, Brava and Ilhéus Rombo. The meeting took place as part of the Chamber's ongoing efforts to promote environmental preservation and sustainable development in the region.

The meeting was guided by the search for synergies between the activities of the NGOs and the municipal objectives of promoting Brava as a tourist destination of nature and culture. It is the City Council's policy to establish partnerships only with organizations whose actions are aligned with the municipality's sustainable development vision.

Projeto VITÓ, regionally recognized for its marine conservation initiatives and promotion of environmental education, presented its proposals to expand its activities on the island of Brava, contributing to the protection of local marine biodiversity and community awareness.

For its part, BI-FLORES, with its remarkable experience in protecting the endemic flora and fauna of the volcanic islands, shared its plans for research and management of the unique species found in the region. The partnership with the City Council aims to further these efforts, ensuring the long-term preservation of Brava's distinctive natural features.

The Mayor expressed his enthusiasm for the proposed collaboration, stating: "It is essential that we join our efforts to ensure environmental sustainability while promoting conscious and responsible tourism. The natural wealth of the island of Brava is a treasure that must be protected for the future generations."

Discussions at the hearing were marked by the constructive exchange of ideas and suggestions, outlining a promising path for fruitful cooperation between NGOs and municipal administration. Both parties agreed to explore opportunities for joint projects, community empowerment and awareness raising.

With this initiative, the Municipality of Brava reaffirms its commitment to promoting sustainable development, responsible tourism and the preservation of the natural beauties that make the island of Brava a unique destination for lovers of nature and culture.
