Camilo Gonçalves, who was at the head of Brava's municipal government for 12 years, has always stood out for his dedication to his homeland and his commitment to the development of Brava. After losing the municipal elections in 2012 to Orlando Balla, Gonçalves stayed away from the political spotlight. Now, however, his return to the national political scene has been given a new impetus with his role as Rhode Island delegate for Nuias Silva's candidacy for the leadership of the PAICV.

On the occasion, Gonçalves revealed the reasons that led him to embrace Nuias Silva's candidacy. According to him, his decision to support the former minister and political leader is due to the confidence he has in Nuias Silva's integrity, seriousness and capacity for dialogue. For Gonçalves, these qualities make him a candidate with the ideal profile to lead the PAICV, especially at a time of political and social challenges facing the party.

Gonçalves also highlighted Nuias Silva's vast experience both in the political sphere and in the administration of the Cape Verdean state. The former mayor stressed that Silva has held important positions in public administration and state and private companies, where he has shown seriousness and competence throughout his career. He said that, in times of need for a leadership capable of promoting understanding and collaboration, Nuias Silva is the candidate who can unite the various internal currents of the PAICV and, at the same time, strengthen the party's position on the national stage.

The presentation of Nuias Silva's candidacy in Rhode Island was marked by great support from the Cape Verdean community, who were enthusiastic about Silva's project for the future of the PAICV. The presence of Camilo Gonçalves as a trustee adds considerable weight to the candidacy, as he is a respected figure with great ties to the party's grassroots, especially among Cape Verdeans in the diaspora.

The candidacy of Nuias Silva, with the support of Camilo Gonçalves, is expected to move intensely in the coming weeks, with new meetings and events planned to mobilize more support and expand the proposals aimed at strengthening the PAICV. For many, this could be a new phase for the party, which is looking to renew its strategies and leadership amid the demands of Cape Verdean society.
