Fajã d'Água School, infrastructure in degradation and abandonment after closure
Nova Sintra, August 4, 2024 – The Fajã d'Água School, which was closed due to lack of students, is facing a worrying state of degradation and abandonment. Since its closure, the institution's infrastructure has deteriorated, reflecting a scenario of neglect and lack of maintenance.
The school, which was once an important educational hub for the local community, has seen a decline in student numbers over the past few years, leading authorities to take the decision to close it. However, the subsequent neglect has led to an alarming situation. The building’s structure is visibly deteriorated, with damaged roofs, peeling walls and the outside areas overgrown with weeds and rubbish.
The lack of maintenance has raised concerns among local residents, who fear that the situation could worsen further if there is no appropriate intervention. In addition, the site has become a point of concern in terms of safety and hygiene, generating discontent among the population that was previously served by the institution.
The local community and some representatives are calling for immediate action from the authorities to resolve the situation and possibly find a new use for the building. “It is a shame to see such an important structure for our community being abandoned in this manner,” commented one local resident. “We hope that steps will be taken to restore the building or at least ensure that it is kept in a safe condition.”
Meanwhile, the future of the Fajã d'Água School remains uncertain, and the expectation is that the authorities will respond to the community's concerns and seek solutions to resolve the situation of degradation that currently affects the site.
