The mayor of Santa Catarina do Fogo, Alberto Nunes, defended today the installation of functional delegations of the electricity (Electra) and water (Águabrava) companies in his municipality, to solve some difficulties that affect that municipality.
At his request, Alberto Nunes met on Thursday, in São Filipe, with Electra's deputy delegate and Águabrava's administrator/delegate to analyze these issues and consider the possibility of these companies setting up their delegations.
In the case of Electra, the mayor recalled that there was a structure in Santa Catarina that provided an “excellent service” and when there were technical and network problems, they were resolved immediately.
He added that at the moment the structure is far from the municipality and does not meet what was the purpose of its creation, which is to have autonomy in all senses and not be dependent on other municipalities.
According to the mayor, 14 years after the creation of the municipality, there are still services that are centralized in São Filipe and that need to be decentralized so that the citizens of Santa Catarina do not become dependent on the parent municipality.
Although the municipality does not face frequent and prolonged cuts, Alberto Nunes said that it has registered some blackouts in some locations, especially in the rainy season, due to the fact that the network is obsolete, which is why he analyzed this issue with the deputy delegate, in addition to the delay replacing light bulbs and placing more lamps for public lighting in places identified by the council.
With regard to Águabrava, he recognized that the water supply system has undergone substantial improvement and that at the moment there are several pending requests for water for the installation of agricultural plots with a drop-drop system.
Alberto Nunes said he had received guarantees from the administrator/delegate that with the conclusion of the works to increase the availability of water for agriculture, in the near future, the requests, given their volume, will be met.
With the heads of the two companies, the mayor addressed the issue of Chã das Caldeiras and Cabeça Fundão, noting that in the case of Chã das Caldeiras, the only town in the municipality that does not yet have power, the project for its electrification with clean energy was selected and funded to the value of US$123,000 and that work will begin in November.
With its electrification, Santa Catarina is 100 percent (%) covered by electricity.
As for Cabeça Fundão, the only one that does not have a water supply network, the municipality is considering the possibility, having already requested technical support, to redefine and adapt the existing project for its supply.
The mayor noted that there is the possibility of taking water from Achada Furna or Estancia Roque, and that with the possibility of carrying out another borehole in Chã das Caldeiras it will be another alternative, to cover the municipality 100% with the water network.
Alberto Nunes said that the idea is to expand this kind of meeting with other institutions, such as health, although at the moment the situation “is good”, with two permanent doctors who have provided “a good service” to the population.
Within the framework of the indication left by the Minister of Health during his visit, in order to find a space for reproductive health, in order to decongest the health center of Cova Figueira, the council has already identified a building, and today the president, together with the doctor in charge, visits the space to consider whether it responds to the needs of the service that is intended to be installed and then begins to intervene to receive the service.
In the next few days, Alberto Nunes will meet with the director of the Health Region to discuss the question of the health center in Chã das Caldeiras, whose project is ready and work should start at any moment.
