Fire devastates house on Brava Island, once again exposing the lack of an efficient civil protection service
City of Nova Sintra, August 13, 2024 (Bravanews) - On the afternoon/evening of this Monday, Brava Island was shaken by a fire that consumed a residence in the locality of Cruz Grande. According to reports, the fire spread quickly, destroying the property and leaving the population in shock.
Local authorities were immediately alerted, but according to some local residents, the island's fire department is nothing more than folklore. The lack of adequate equipment and specialized vehicles has made it difficult to fight the flames, and the only vehicle available is used in "parodies," wrote Alvado Coelho, a resident of Brava, on his social media. Unfortunately, the situation has worsened due to the lack of efficient mobile resources, making a more effective response impossible.
The local population, concerned about the situation, has expressed its discontent. There are reports that some residents, unhappy with the slow response, have organized demonstrations and discussions about the urgent need to improve the island's emergency conditions, "since public money is being spent on a few less urgent and priority issues instead of investing in means of protecting the population."
