The relatives of the patient transferred last week from the island of Brava to the Hospital Regional São Francisco de Assis, in serious condition, are concerned about the delay in his referral to the Hospital Central da Praia (HAN).

Verónica Alves, niece of the patient Alberto Alves, sought out Inforpress to denounce the delays recorded in sending her uncle to the Dr. Agostinho Neto Hospital, in Praia, for treatment, adding that the delay could be fatal for him to stay "paralyzed".

According to the same source, this said that the uncle fell into a ditch in the city of Nova Sintra - Brava - and that the island's health authorities, in the absence of means to make the diagnosis, sent him to the São Francisco de Assis Regional Hospital in on the island of Fogo, on the 15th of December, on the ship Liberdade, as it came in an ambulance, having arrived at this establishment around 13:00 hours of the same day.

According to Inforpress, Verónica Alves also said that on the same day the doctor who attended him determined that radiology exams be carried out, but the plate was only analyzed on the following day (16), adding that given the severity, the doctor determined the his urgent referral to the Hospital Agostinho Neto, for tomography examinations and evaluation by a neurosurgeon to determine the injuries and the necessary treatment to regain locomotion.

“The niece said that since the fall her uncle has been immobilized in a hospital bed and has been unable to move, awaiting his transfer to Praia”, writes the Caboverdiana de Notícias Agency.

As he will have to be transported on a stretcher, according to Verónica Alves, the information he received from the hospital is that it would not be possible to send him by plane, due to the unavailability of space on commercial flights and that to activate a small plane it would be A high amount is required that the government would not support and the family is unable to do so.

“The solution would be to transport him by sea using an ambulance, which did not happen last Monday due to the rough sea conditions in the port of Vale dos Cavaleiros, which did not allow the ship Liberdade to travel”, says Vernónica to Inforpress .

According to Inforpress, the family members appeal to the health authorities to solve the problem before it is too late so that Alberto Alves can recover from the injury he suffered in the spine and spinal cord that has left him paralyzed at the moment and “depending on third parties”.
