Rosandro Monteiro said that the tasting of the wines that participated in this year's competition took place on the 29th and 30th of September, in Italy, and that the award ceremony is scheduled for the 3rd of December in Turin (Italy), with Adega Cooperativa of Chã das Caldeiras in participating in the ceremony.
“This is the first time that Adega Cooperativa de Chã das Caldeiras has participated in an international wine competition”, said Rosando Monteiro, expressing satisfaction and a sense of pride at the fact that one of his wines had been awarded a gold medal in a universe of more than 800 wines from several dozen countries.
“The awarding of the gold medal is recognition and shows that we are doing a good job. It is a stimulus to continue working and improving the quality of the wine produced by the winery”, said Rosando Monteiro, adding that his winery also participated with the Red and Passito wines which, however, were not distinguished, because, he explained, in the In the case of red wine there are certain criteria and parameters.
Adega Cooperativa de Chã das Caldeiras, highlighted Rosando Monteiro, has a small laboratory for analyzing its products, but there are situations in which it uses international laboratories, particularly those in the Canary Islands, to analyze certain wine parameters.
The global extreme wine competition is organized by CERVIM under the sponsorship of the International Wine and Vine Organization (OIV) and authorized by the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies and dedicated to the promotion of wines produced in so-called “heroic” wine-growing areas. ”.
The competition selects the best wines from extreme viticulture with the aim of defending and rewarding the production of small wine-growing areas, writes the organization on its official page.
Holders of a distinct history and bearers of a lasting tradition, these regions are home to valuable and unique landscapes and focus mainly on the cultivation of local grape varieties, and these true “wine sanctuaries” may be at risk of disappearing due to their considerable production costs, ten times higher than those of lowland vineyards.
The aim of the competition is to highlight the unique characteristics of these products, as well as to raise consumer awareness of the cultural aspects of mountain viticulture and the valuable work that winegrowers carry out to safeguard the territory and the environment and so that consumers themselves can appreciate the wines.
