Social and cultural activist Melany Vieira said today that the first edition of the festival “Nha téra, nha kretchêu”, held last Sunday in Pawtucket, United States, deserved a “positive assessment” by the organization and the participants.

Speaking to Inforpress, the social and cultural activist said that, firstly, the event was attended by twice the number of people expected, as they prepared for around 500 people, but around 1,000 people showed up.

According to her, this participation is already a source of pride and encouragement for the organization, but the 'feedback' they have received from participants is “even greater”.

“I can't say that we achieved our objective 100 percent (%) because nothing is perfect. But with more experience, more time and dedication, we will improve”, said the organizer, adding that they will work to reach at least 99% in the next editions.

This event was an opportunity for Cape Verdeans to "kill the nostalgia" of the country's typical practices and traditional music, in addition to having the opportunity to "refresh" or "get to know" some historical landmarks of the archipelago.

Melany Vieira explained that they organized with traditional food, although she regrets the non-participation of a tent that was going to represent the island of Santo Antão, with the expectation that in the next edition there may be the participation of nine tents representing the nine inhabited islands of Cape Verde.

On the musical issue, he also mentioned that there were some constraints, taking into account that some musicians did not show up to support some artists, thus making it difficult for them to perform at the event.

But, he stressed that many participated and did “right” to the cause. The same source regrets the fact that the organization does not have the means to hire a support band to guarantee the performance of all artists.

Questioned about a next edition, Melany Vieira said that they intend to repeat the event next year, although there is still no exact date, but the forecast is to be at the same time as the first edition.

According to her, it is a season that is neither too cold nor too hot, there are fewer activities on the street and this wind is a way to end the summer.

And, for next year, he promises that the organization will prepare a wider space with more Cape Verdean products for the exhibition.
