Furna fishermen demand promises of new trawler
City of Nova Sintra, September 18, 2024 (Bravanews) – Fishermen from the locality of Furna are mobilized to demand the fulfillment of the promises made by the current Mayor, Francisco Tavares, during the 2020 campaign. The community awaits the construction of a new trawler, considered essential to support those who depend on the sea for their livelihood.
Four years have passed since the announcement of the project, but so far nothing has been done. The fishermen highlight the importance of the trawler to improve working conditions and safety, in addition to boosting the local economy.
Hoping that the promises will finally be fulfilled, the fishermen are asking for the work to be carried out by 2024. "We need adequate infrastructure to guarantee our way of life and preserve our fishing tradition," said a community representative.
They promise to continue their fight until their demands are met, as they are fed up with being deceived.
Meanwhile, the town of Fajã D'Água is also waiting for the construction of the same infrastructure.
