Brava Sustainable Foundation honors the history of Municipal Leaders with the donation of frames

Brava, August 18, 2023 - During a visit to the Brava Municipal Assembly and Chamber yesterday, the President of the Brava Sustainable Foundation, Doctor José Gonçalves, delivered a symbolic gift that will certainly have lasting significance for the island. The donation of 12 special frames for the exhibition of photographs of the six former mayors of the Municipal Assembly and five former mayors of the Municipal Chamber that Brava has elected so far, celebrating the historical and political trajectory of the island.

Doctor José Gonçalves, an illustrious Bravense who also held the position of President of the Municipal Assembly of Brava from 1996 to 2000, reaffirmed his commitment to the preservation of local memory and the strengthening of the island's democratic institutions. In conversation with dignitaries, he highlighted the importance of honoring those who have dedicated their time and effort to public service, contributing to Brava's progress and development.

The current leaders of the Assembly and Municipal Chamber expressed their gratitude for the gesture of the Sustainable Brava Foundation. Assembly President Fernanda Burgo emphasized the importance of remembering the past to shape the future, and thanked Doctor José Gonçalves for his continued dedication to the island. The President of the Chamber, Francisco Tavares, highlighted the importance of keeping Brava's political history alive to inspire future generations of leaders.

The elegantly designed and crafted frames will be carefully placed in the entrance halls of the Municipal Assembly and City Hall, providing a remarkable and dignified display of the former presidents who have shaped the island's trajectory over the years.

Remembering that after the political opening and democratic and free elections in Cape Verde, Brava Island elected Miguel Vieira (1992-1996), José Gonçalves (1996-2000), Carlos Burgo (2000-2004), Francisco Coelho (2004-2012) , David Gomes (2012-2016) and Fernanda Burgo (2016 until today) for the position of President of the Municipal Assembly of Brava and Jorge Nogueira (1992-1996), José Maria Barros (1996-2000), Camilo Gonçalves (2000-2012 ), Orlando Ball (2012-2017) and Francisco Tavares (2017 to date).

The Brava Sustainable Foundation's generous and meaningful gesture not only preserves Brava's history, but also serves as a tangible reminder of the importance of civic participation and community engagement. The island unites to applaud this act of recognition and gratitude, reaffirming the strength of the Bravense identity and the determination to build an even more prosperous and united future.
