The re-elected mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, promises to transform the island into a “high added value tourist destination”. The statement was made yesterday at the investiture ceremony of the newly elected members of the 2020-2024 municipal council and assemblies.
He pointed out three axes that, in his opinion, are “holding back” the development of the island of Brava.
“It is a mandate that will have to bring the solution to the 3 structuring issues that hold back development: the definitive improvement of the island's connection to the other islands, improvements in the health service and a definitive solution for the production of water for human consumption in quantity and quality”, explains Tavares.
During his speech, the re-elected CMB, in the municipal elections of October 25, asked for the support of everyone, and the Government, so that together they can put into practice the motto “take Brava forward”.
Continuing with the rehabilitation of housing, urban rehabilitation and the program to facilitate higher technical and professional training for young people on Brava, are some of the commitments assumed by Francisco Tavares to reinforce the projects aimed at transforming the island.
“We have to develop agriculture, livestock and fishing to also follow this development” he says.
Present at the act on behalf of the Government was the Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister for Regional Integration, Rui Figueiredo Soares, who, given the difficulties faced by the island, guaranteed the Government's commitment to reversing the situation.
“An island that has had some difficulties in setting the pace for development at the country level, but we are firmly committed to reversing the situation” says the minister.
In these municipal elections, the Movement for Democracy (MpD) headed by Francisco Tavares for the Chamber and Fernanda Burgo for the Municipal Assembly of Brava, elected the five councilors and seven of the 13 municipal elected officials.
The AM of this mandate has as president Fernanda Burgo of the MpD, vice-president Margarida Fernandes Rodrigues of the (PAICV) and as secretary, João José Delgado, of the MpD.
