Free Trade Zone: PR defends special attention to Small Island States

The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, spoke this afternoon at the 36th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, with the latter drawing attention, in the point on the African Continental Free Trade Area, to the specificities of Small Island States (ISP), which demand the design of “instruments and programs that enable the insertion of these countries in the dynamics of the international market.

Notwithstanding this concern, the RP welcomes the advances in the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area and its importance for the dynamism of the continent's economy and for the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Cape Verde, he says, thus supports the roadmap for accelerating this process, highlighting the protocols on competition policy and on investments. These two documents come to develop the necessary legal framework for the implementation of the aforementioned Free Trade Area, “as a safe space for commercial transactions and investments that we need to achieve the Africa that we want”.
