Futsal: Coach of the Brava national team asks for everyone's involvement to "leverage" the sport among women
The coach of the women's futsal team that will represent Brava at the Inter-ilhas Futsal Feminino 2023 to be held on the island of Boa Vista asks for the involvement of the whole society to "leverage" the sport among women.
Maria Martins made this appeal in an interview with Inforpress, where she spoke of the selection's preparations, difficulties and expectations, noting that a few years ago Brava had women's football teams and good-sized athletes, but that due to lack of incentives and support for sport in female breast ended up “dying”.
Hence, she showed that at the moment the 10 athletes who will represent the island have already been selected and she is on this “mission” out of passion for the ball and fighting so that women's football on the island does not go into decay even more.
The objective of the selection, according to the same, is “to make a good performance and to show that Brava also has athletes with capacity to reach the objectives that were traced in times and that are still pending”.
Meanwhile, Maria Martins revealed that in order to reach the desired level and compete on an equal basis, it is necessary to support these initiatives, highlighting that the selection lacks all types of support, namely, materials, equipment, and even difficulties at field level, although, he stressed that there are people who have supported this initiative from the beginning.
To participate in the Inter-ilhas Futsal Feminino 2023, which will take place in Boa Vista from August 24th to September 4th, the team will have to cover the travel expenses, prepare the minimum of materials they need to train, including equipment , balls, vests, cones, among others.
The coach said that at the moment, the team does not even have a complete uniform to say that it will represent Brava and it is in this sense that they are looking for local support and in the diaspora, with the Municipality of Brava and other entities linked to sport to see if they can travel to Boa Vista and represent Brava with dignity.
And finally, it makes an appeal to the society of Brava in general in order to unite and support women's football, remembering that in times Brava athletes already made history in this modality and only the goodwill of athletes and coaches will not be possible to take this modality of the sunken well.
Inter-ilhas Futsal Feminino 2023 has the motto “Futsal in the fight against breast cancer” and runs from August 24th to September 4th.
