NSAR “Ilhéu dos Pássaros” provides support to the vessel that capsized, in the vicinity of Brava.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC), after having received, on April 28, a telephone call, reporting that a boat with its mouth open, with two fishermen, had capsized, near the islets of Brava Island , immediately activated the NSAR “Ilhéu dos Pássaros”, which left Porto da Furna, at 8:10 am, towards the area where the incident took place.

Upon arriving at the accident site, at 8:50 am, the NSAR “Ilhéu dos Pássaros” found another vessel already providing assistance to the victims.

After assessing the situation, the Coast Guard vessel proceeded to tow the vessel in question, having docked in the port of Furna at 9:43 am.

The alert had been given by the Maritime Delegate of Ilha Brava.

It is recalled that the installation of the Military Detachment and the permanent placement of a Coast Guard vessel, on the island of Brava, is the result of the implementation of the Coast Guard Strategic Development Plan (2017-2027), in force, and has the purpose of ensure greater surveillance and inspection of maritime activities in the region and reinforce the country's capacity to carry out search and rescue operations, as well as support civil protection and medical evacuation actions.
