BRAVA ISLAND AND ITS DESTINATION - Jovino Peres

I read and reread the advertisement by friend and Commander Orlando Bala, about his unconditional support for his replacement and current President of the Chamber, but Sir Commander, sorry, I did not know the specific reason for your support, you wrote a lot and nothing that justifies this support “Brava is better”, better because the Fast Ferry boat stopped having a regular connection with the island and we lost the airport, and therefore the isolation is increasing? Commander, the Mayor, as you know, is supposed to be the administrator of the island, and the most important thing is not to be close to the poor, but to help the island not have poor people. As? Doing island administration work with the support of the Central Government, to provide more education, encourage and promote more training and thus create more jobs.

I will try to be short but concrete, Commander: what Brava Island needs and what the island does not need. A country that lives on “alms” without compensation will never be a developed country.
A country only becomes a development country when it invests well, and in countries like Cape Verde it is mandatory with the support of the Governments.
With all due respect to those who gave their best to public service on the island of Brava, after independence, there are 2 examples of investments on the island that deserve our appreciation: the airport with the memory of nhó Xico de nha Ângela and that of Fast Ferry with investors Nelson and Andy. These 2 projects unfortunately did not have the proper follow-up from the Central Governments. In my opinion, Brava Island is a small island with few inhabitants and mainly few participants in political life, so we still belong to the Cape Verde Archipelago only in the physical aspect. With regard to administrative projects, we only had one President who tried to introduce an inclusion system on the island, Camilo Gonçalves, who tried to “force” regular maritime transport, with the support of Fast Ferry investors. I explain better: the islands of Brava and Santo Antão are the islands that do not have air transport, the island of Brava also does not have maritime transport, and therefore we are forced to demand the end of isolation, by sea.
Lord Commander already thought that if the current local administration found a solution to solve the problem of land and abandoned houses, Brava Island would have everything to gain. It is necessary to present proposals, which are to the satisfaction of the parties.
Finally, I would like to touch on the health problem, that is, the lack of a hospital on the island with the minimum of conditions. A hospital for the island of Brava must necessarily be a public investment, and not the work of a group of people, no matter how well they may have, because in addition to its construction, its maintenance will be of greater importance. Just a “tip” see how the problem of Hospital da Praia, today Hospital Agostinho Neto, was solved in 1975.
