Jehovah's Witnesses meet annually in congress, but since 2019, due to the covid-19 pandemic, this activity has been suspended and is resumed today with the congress being held in the municipality of São Filipe, in the sports pavilion of São Lourenço, less than ten kilometers from the city.

Through a press release, the congregation highlights that before 2019, summers in São Filipe were marked by the presence of Jehovah's Witnesses from all over Fogo Island and Brava Island, underlining that in 2020, the pandemic interrupted the tradition when the Jehovah's Witnesses canceled their in-person conventions around the world and replaced them with a single worldwide convention held virtually in multiple languages.

According to the press release, Jehovah's Witnesses from all over the island of Fogo and Brava and "many guests" will attend this "special meeting" from today to Sunday, the 20th, noting that, although the virtual congresses have reached millions of around the world and kept communities safe, Jehovah's Witnesses look forward to getting back to “joyful fellowship” at large conventions.

During the three days of the congress, six sessions will analyze the quality of patience, highlighting its current importance through biblical examples, but live baptisms will also be performed and a film will be shown.

With the theme "Be patient" it aims to demonstrate that patience is an "excellent quality" that all Christians want to demonstrate in their daily lives, said the note, stressing that despite good intentions, being patient in the face of life's many challenges can be a daily challenge.

“It will be very opportune for all of us to spend three days analyzing aspects of this quality”, reads the note, adding that the congress is open to the public and that no collections are made.
