João José Delgado, MpD MP, criticizes the autocratic management of the Brava City Council and prophesies a "paralyzed" future for the municipality

Nova Sintra City, February 4, 2025 (Bravanews) - On his social networks, João José Delgado, elected member of the Movement for Democracy (MpD), has harshly criticized the management of the Brava City Council, led by the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV), under the presidency of Amandio Brito. Delgado accused the council of adopting "autocratic management", which could lead the municipality to a situation of deadlock and lack of progress.

In his post, the MpD MP said that the attitude of the Municipal Council has been authoritarian, jeopardizing the development of Brava. He suggested that with the current municipal administration, the island's future is heading towards a "paralyzed future", where political and administrative decisions would not be serving the best interests of the population.

The MP goes further, stating that his party, which has a majority in the Municipal Assembly chaired by Ivone Cardoso, will not hesitate to reject important documents relating to the management of Brava Town Hall if there is no change in the approach to governance. The MpD MP stressed that the party will not accept the approval of documents that they consider not to be in line with the expectations of the population, especially with regard to transparency and the good management of public resources.

The threat to reject the City Council's management documents reflects and sums up the opinion that this particular MP has held since December 1, the date of his election.

When contacted, two MPs from the MpD say they don't agree with their colleague's stance and that they are waiting patiently for the presentation of the city council's management documents before deciding on the direction of their votes.

Brava has been the scene of intense debates and political disputes in recent times, reflecting the division between the island's two main political forces. On the one hand, the MpD, which now has a majority in the Municipal Assembly, and on the other, the PAICV, which runs the Municipal Council. Amândio Brito's presidency of the City Council has sought to open up spaces for dialogue and compromise, for the good of Brava.

The Municipal Assembly, chaired by Ivone Cardoso (MpD), must exercise a role of supervision and control over the actions of the City Council, complying with the rule of law. João José Delgado's criticism of the PAICV's management reflects, according to some, an isolated position of a deputy, an attitude that doesn't help to improve municipal management or the lives of Bravenses.

If the threat to reject the management documents is carried out, because the difference in the number of deputies between the parties is minimal, there could be a worsening of the political crisis in Brava, with possible consequences for the people. The impasse could jeopardize the approval of projects and investments that are essential for the development of Brava, directly harming the population, which depends on effective and collaborative management to achieve improvements in the areas of infrastructure, health and education.

In response to the criticism, the Brava City Council, led by Amandio Brito, has yet to make an official statement, but the debate is expected to continue in the coming days as the Municipal Assembly prepares to vote on new management documents for 2025.

The political crisis in Brava reflects growing tension between the MpD and the PAICV,

With João José Delgado's criticisms of the management of the Brava Municipal Council and the threat of management documents being struck down, the people of Brava find themselves at the center of a political dispute that could directly influence the future of the island. The Brava community, which hopes to see improvements in various areas of its daily life, is watching the developments of this controversy closely, waiting for concrete solutions that will bring real benefits to their lives.
