John Benros, a descendant of Brava natives, will bring an international athletics event to Brava Island
Brava, Cape Verde – September 7, 2024 – John Benros, a Brava native and well-known sports event organizer, recently announced that he will be visiting Brava Island to host a series of athletics events and social activities. The big news is that the Caboverdeans 5K team, which Benros coordinates, is preparing to internationalize its event.
In a social media post, Benros revealed that the Caboverdeans 5K will hold its first international event in Brava on January 18, 2025. "I am pleased to announce that the Caboverdeans 5K is going international. On January 18, 2025, we will be on Brava Island, Cape Verde (where my mother was born) for our first event abroad," Benros said.
The event will feature athletics events that are expected to attract athletes from all over the world, as well as foster interaction between participants and the local community. “The Cape Verdeans 5K will be donating all shirts, trophies and snacks/water free of charge to all participants,” said Benros. In addition, event shirts will be on sale to raise funds to support and continue the activities promoted by the organization.
Benros also promised to keep all interested parties informed about the availability of the shirts for purchase, which will allow event supporters and athletics enthusiasts to prepare to participate and contribute to the cause.
This event promises to not only promote the sport, but also strengthen ties between the Cape Verdean diaspora and their homeland, celebrating the culture and heritage of Brava Island in an innovative and inclusive way.
